Japan’s Import Structure

Japan must depend on other countries for much of their raw materials. There is certainly not enough iron, steel, rubber and such to keep churning out their cars.

What does Japan need from outside the island?

Where do they get it from and how much do they get?

4. Raw Materials 6.3% of which metal is 2.7%, and 1.2% is lumber

3. Food stuffs is 10.8% – of which 3.1% is fish and 1.4% is grains.

2. Mineral Fuel is 21.7% – of which 12.3% is crude oil

and

1. Products – 61.3% – of which 31.3% was for machinery and equipment, 7.8% was Chemical products, 6.0% for Textile products and 5.1% for metal products.

Japan does do good work, but they need outside support to make things.
