Japan’s First Lesbian Candidate

This woman is going to need a serious hard hat to make it the land where the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

Everybody…I mean everybody…will be taking swings at her.

Right or wrong…Japan does NOT like different. The Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) one of Japan’s five main political parties will back Kanako Otsuji, the first openly lesbian politician to seek a national spot in Japan.

If she wins…she’ll be the first openly LGBT national politician in the country.

Homosexuals, transgenders have campaigned in local elections…one having won.

The DPJ says it backs her because the party wants to “bring society’s attention to the discriminated people.”

Is this a sign, albeit very small, that Japan is becoming a more tolerant socieyt…or do gays have no chance in the land of the rising sun?
