Japanese Version of Burning Man Festival?

It has nothing to do with “Burning Man” but the Japanese have a festival that goes back some 400 years.

Some 135,000 people gathered to watch a parade of people carrying torches 4-6 meters (13′-20′) long.

The festival which takes place in Sukagawa City is dedicated to consoling spirits of victims that were captured by Lord Masamune Date in the 16 hundreds.

Meanwhile the demons are forced to hug one another to stay warm in Karuizawa, Nagano. Perhaps the little demons should have been hanging out at the Fire Festival in Sukagawa, eh?
