Japanese Twenty Somethings Drink Less, Drive Less, Save More

Young Japanese adults in their 20s are changing…a lot…in just the past 7 years.

In 2000, nearly one in four Japanese in the Tokyo area owned a car. Now it is nearly one in eight.

In 2000, almost one in two wanted a car. Today…it's one in four.

Today, one in three drink less than once a month. Two

It's a 'waste of money' is what the young adults are saying.

More than two in five hang out at home taking care of chores – laundry and cleaning up. Just one in three did so seven years ago.

Japanese twenty somethings have about 64,400 yen ($550) in disposable income each month, also up 4000 yen from seven years ago. However, what they like to do with their money the most (36%) is save.

So, what's up with that?

Why the sudden demographic change in Japan's young people?

Ideas?
