Victor Co. of Japan claims the world’s lightest 32″ LCD TV with a screen depth of just 7mm that weighs 11 lbs (5kg).

JVC used white LEDs as the TV’s backlight to create the ultralight, superthin screen.

The white LEDs are only in the top and bottom sections, and JVC employed a means a new structure for reflecting and dispersing the light.

The new LCD TV is light enough to hang from a ceiling. It uses an external tuner.

Samsung claims the world’s thinnest LCD TV at 6.5 mm and aims to make 40-55″ models using white LEDs as the light source.

Seems thickness is following the road of sales…less and less. But, in this case…less is better.

Price has not been disclosed and Japan gets first dibs.
