Verizon’s LG Voyager & Samsung Juke, Apple iPhone – All Chasing Japanese Technology

Verizon's LG Touch-Screen Voyager, Verizon's Samsung Juke and while I am at it, Apple's iPhone are all chasing Japanese technology when it comes to cell phones and cell phone capabilities.

I wonder…do these companies send reps to Japan to see how things are done, then report back to see how they can accomplish the same in the States?

Verizon's Samsung SCH-U470 Juke is a swivel phone, has 2GB of internal storage for music and a scroll wheel for navigation and is shaped like a chocolate bar. Whoopee!

It still lacks any sort of 3G connectivity, standard on Japanese phones.voyager.verizon.jpg

Verizon's LG VX10000 Voyager nothing more than a cheap alternative to Apple iPhone – it has a QWERTY keyboard and faster web access.

Verizon's CMO – "We think it'll be the best phone … this year. It will kill the iPhone." What a strategy. Let's see what the other guy has and make one better.

How about being creative, getting out front and setting the standard?

To be fair, Japan is about the size of California and most of the people live in a place about the size of southern California. It is easier to put up the infrastructure to support techologically superior phones – 3G and otherwise. America is too big to compete.

But, Apple, Verizon and the others don't really care about that…they just want to see how much of your Christmas budget you will spend on them.

Which do you prefer?
