Sharp Corp has come up with a 2.2" LCD display for celluar phones that are less than half the size of existing phones and almost half the weight.

Was 1.5mm – 2.5mm thick and weighing 4 grams.

Is – 0.68mm thick and now weighing in at 2.2 grams.

Sharp's LCD also offers a contrast of 2000:1.. 4 times what is available now.

The LCD is capable of showing clear images of One-Seg land-based digital broadcasts.

The price will be about 30% higher than existing products.sharp.lcd.cell.phone.jpg

Sharp's LCD will be able to compete with handsets using OEL (organic electroluminescence) displays…and cell phones will become even lighter…and just in time for the holidays, too.
