Secret Patents for Military Applications Called For
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry wants to introduce a secret patent system so that technologies involving military applications will not go public.
Makes sense to me.
Japan has a study group of academics and major corporations discussing ways to better protect info held by the government, companies and universities.
Presently there is an 18-month limitation on patents to avoid overlapping work.
The U.S., Britain, France and Germany already have secret frameworks to protect such technologies.
Japan used to before WW II.
METI thinks it is time to reestablish such a division within Japan's Patent Office.
Makes sense to me.
How about you?
