One of Japan's leading mobile phone operators, NTT DoCoMo Inc., will release a handset with advanced functions that will help protect children in emergency situations.

The F801i model, will go on sale Dec. 20.

The handset sets off an alarm of 100 decibels and emits light when a kid or other user pulls an emergency hook.

The whereabouts of the user is then e-mailed to a protector by pushing a designated button.

The F801i will cost Y30,000 and keep objectionable Internet sites off-limits to children.

The predecessor to the F801i has sold nearly 500,000 units since its release in March 2006.

It has a dominant share of the market for handsets for children.

What are you doing to keep your children safe?
