Honda Insight’s Gas-Saving Drive Support Confuses Japanese

Honda motor company is introducing a drive support system that drivers can activate with a flip of a switch, called the Econ mode, and also confuse all Japanese drivers.

The driver can:

1. extend the idling stop

2. turn down the air conditioning (not with the regular a/c switch, mind you.)

3. boost the efficiency of regeneration.

But, none of that is particularly confusing.

The Insight’s speedometer will visually indicate fuel conservation.

When fuel efficiency is high, the speedometer’s background will flash green.

When there is high fuel consumption it will change to blue.

That’s the confusing part.

Don’t believe me? Point to a green traffic light and ask any Japanese what color it is….they’ll tell you it’s blue. Try it.
