Japanese Lose at Sumo – Mongolian Asashoryu Beats New Yokozuna Hakuho for Championship
There was no way for the Japanese to win this last sumo basho. No way.
The two yokozuna who faced off for the championship in the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tourney were both from Mongolia.
Asashroyu has been the top dog for some time. Hakuho, another Mongolian wrestler, fought his first tourney as a yokozuna.
However, on the final day, it was the veteran grand champion who beat the newcomer to sumo's top rank.![]()
And the Japanese…LOST. They have lost control of
their sport.
The foreigners are winning and their are no Japanese in sight.
I used to watch sumo quite a bit when I was in Japan until on the last day of a tournament, a friend of mine told me one bout after another who was going to win BEFORE they fought.
It wasn't so interesting after that, but I did learn to read a lot of kanji. And, it beat watching the first 8 and half innings of Japanese baseball.
