Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 2 November 2007No Comment

A 20-member delegation from Japan:

Toyota Motor Corp.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.

Canon Inc.

among others as well as officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are heading to India to press New Delhi to step up efforts to crack down on piracy and forging of Japanese products.

The public-private mission hopes to pre-empt problems that have already happened in China.

1. asking for tougher regulations to b imposed

2. sharing know-how for recognizing counterfeit products

3. investigating the extent of the problem

will also be part of the mission.

A similar group went to China in 2002 and returned five times already.

It's the first time for India.

Japanese companies estimate they lost Y10 trillion ($800 billion) due to counterfeiting, IPR violations.

Japan, the U.S. and Europe are working together on the crackdown issue.

Have you ever had anything of yours stolen and sold?
