Japanese Fight Obesity With Nestafin
The Japanese might be among the healthiest and slimmest people of any nation. Still researchers in Japan think they have found a protein that can suppress appetite and help treat obesity and the "I have a slow metabolism" excuse.
A team of scientists at Gunma University Graduate School of Medicine (Gunma is on the Pacific side of the Japan Alps) published a paper in the online version of the British science magazine, NATURE.
The protein has a name – Nestafin. Nestafin means nothing in Japanese.
Nestafin is a secretion of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus helps control appetite.
The scientists tested the protein on rats, something that couldn’t be done in CA, even if the politicians and lawyers did volunteer for the testing.
The rats showed a food intake decrease of two-thirds after taking the protein for 10 days. The rodents also lost 20% of their subcutaneous fat without losing muscular strength.
What a great finding this could be for Americans who can be up to two times bigger than many Japanese adults.
But, why is Japan doing such research and not America? Oh…yea…the rats.
What do you think?
