気が変わるきがかわる, ki ga kawaru] change one’s mind

To have a change of spirit is to have a change of heart.

I can't remember the countless times I heard this phrase, usually when 'she' told me she didn't want to see me anymore.

Why? Why?!

She changed her mind.

A bad joke that is guaranteed to get a groan and a chuckle but also impress your Japanese friends –

A girl was proposed to under a cherry blossom tree in the Spring. She said, "No."

She was proposed to again under a plum tree in the Fall. This time she said, "Yes."

Why – 気が変わった.

Ki can also mean tree. A pun meaning the tree changed.

Yeah, I know. foreigners will think, huh?
