Japanese Body Language – 気が重い

気が重いきがおもい, ki ga omoi] be down; be depressed; be heavy on one’s mind

If you see your buddy looking blue, or know that your girl friend got in trouble at school, or maybe even your boss yelled at you, you will invaribly feel a very heavy cloud descend over you, weighing you down.

The Japanese express that feeling with the phrase.

Come to think of it, I heard it a lot more than I had hoped.

Were my friends really feeling so badly?
