Japanese Big Business Heads to Chian

Mitarai Fujio is CEO of camera maker Canon. He also heads Japan’s most powerful business lobby.

Mitarai will lead a delegation of top businessmen from Japan to China next week to meet with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss how to promote business/economic ties.

Chinese/Japanese relations cooled a bit when PM Koizumi visited the Tokyo War Shrine last month…it’s happened that way the past five years.

It has become the responsbility of the business leaders to keep the Japan/China relationship sound…hence the trip, I think.

China is good or bad, depending on how you look at it…pragmatic is likely the better word when it comes to business. For some reason, the Chinese can isolate their feelings, political, religious or otherwise and still do business.

This is puzzling to Westerners…to me as well.

My guess, that in a short amount of time, it will be business as usual for Japan and China.

What do you think?
