Japanese Anime Headed for Hollywood

Hollywood has successfully remade "The Grudge," "The Ring" or "Shall We Dance" and lately has done well with flicks about Japan – "Letters From Iwo Jima" and "Memoirs of a Geisha," "Last Samurai" and so on.

Now, Hollywood wants to try turning a mid-60s animation series "Mach Go Go" into a Hollywood film.

Hollywood has the Wachowski Brothers, of "Matrix" fame directing, Emile Hirsch playing the title character, Christina Ricci, his sidekick, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman are Speed's parents.speed.racer.jpg

At one time, Johnny Depp was to play the part, but the deal fell apart some 15 years ago.

A premiere is planned for May 9, 2008.

What next? Sailor Moon? Dragon Ball Z? On the big screen?
