Japan Pledges Y3.88 billion more in food aid to Sudan + 8
Japan will provide a total of Y3.88 billion worth of food aid to:
Sudan,
East Timor,
Sri Lanka,
Somalia and five other countries through the World Food Program WFP).
Hope are to improve the food shortages in these countries, says Japan's Foreign Ministry.
Japan will provide Y1 billion for food for the socially vulnerable in Sudan – internally displaced refugees, women and children.
Also in the agreement, food aid for the same groups at:
Y600 million in Kenya,
Y500 million in Sri Lanka,
Y470 million in Uganda,
Y340 million in the Central African Republic,
Y300 million in Somalia,
Y290 million in the Republic of Congo,
Y240 million in Guinea-Bissau
Y140 million yen in East Timor.
Sudan is Africa's largest country and is suffering from chronic food shortage due to internal conflicts, drought and poverty.
Japan has already given Y970 million yen in food aid to Sudan through the WFP.
