Japan Is Number 3 in GDP

I knew Japan’s GDP was big but I didn’t know how big it was till I came across the actual numbers.

Japan’s GDP is bigger than any two of these countries combined: Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy or China.

Japan’s GDP is over $4.6 trillion but it is still less than half of the US. But, then Japan has less than half of the population of the US. If GDP were calculated on a per person basis…Japan and the US are almost equal…the US is still ahead, however.

The rankings

10.  Russia

 9.  Brazil

 8.  Italy

 7.  France

 6.  U.K.

 5.  Germany

 4.  India

 3.  Japan

 2.  China

 1.  U.s.A.

11 – 15 are Canada, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, and Indonesia .

What always was of interest to me was that the two countries that lost to the US in WWII are now in the top five. Maybe the secret to having a strong economy is to fight with the US.

Now, that’s stupid!

Japan ranks with the US which has 3 times the population of the US and China and India which each have 10 times the population.  How does such a small country compete with such big rivals?

What do you think?

Oh, and Japan’s economy is growing again.
