Japan Grows More Environmentally Friendly

The Kyoto accord was/is Japan's baby…though Japan is not able to meet the standards there were set.

But, the average Hitoshi and Yumiko are doing their part in recycling and buying eco-friendly cars.

In 1988 there were 282,000 tons of plastic bottles collected – 16.9% of the total.

In 2003 there were 485,000 tons – 48.5% of the total produced. Way to go toeco-friendly.jpg Japan!

In 1997, Japanese bought 8,634 low-emission vehicles.

To Toyota's delight, the number of low-emission cars purchased in 2003 was almost 20 times that = 160,950.

Japan's government cannot meet the standards itself for itself, but you can't fault the people for making progress.

What do you think?
