Japan Debates Daylight Savings Time…Again

Daylight Savings Time has never been much of a debate.

The old fogies in Japan's parliament remember when the US imposed daylight savings time on the nation with no preparation. The result was mass confusion.

One of Japan's most influential lawmakers, former PM Koizumi -  "What a pain! I'm not interested. Companies that want it should just do it themselves," the outspoken politician was quoted by a newspaper as saying.

In a country where it is frowned upon to go home before dark, many say that DST or "summer time" as it is known in Japan will just be a means to squeeze more work out of the already overworked.dst.japan.JPG

But…the global warming activists are saying that Japan could reduce by roughly 1.4 million tons of the amount of CO2 emissions each year by switching

to DST.

However, this amounts to a measley 0.1% of Japan's total of 1.29 billion tons.

Nope…I don't think Japan will switch to DST none too soon.

They like it when it gets dark at 7pm in mid-summer. At least they get to go home.
