JAL Profits Soar 5-fold
Japan Airlines (JAL) saw their profits jump 500% in the first half of this year as compared to the same time period last year.
Sales, however, were down.
JAL experienced some safety issues:
1. an engine caught on fire
2. wheels have fallen off
3. take offs with faulty latch
As a result, ANA has gained a windfall in customers.
JAL focused on:
1. cutting jobs
2. reducing the size of its aircraft
3. more profitable routes – to China and India.
Special losses –
1. early retirment
2. speeding up the replacement of aircrafts
JAL still has problems, however. It is one of the Asian and European airlines that is under investigation for anti-competitive practices in air cargo.
JAL still expects to come out in the black for this fiscal year.
Which do you prefer JAL, ANA or some other airline?
Or whatever is cheapeast at the time?
