Isuzu Motor Will Produce Midsize Buses in India

Isuzu Motor Ltd. will team up with Sumitomo Corp. and Swaraj Mazda Ltd. to produce midsize buses in India's fast growing market for commercial vehicles.

Isuzu will be the first Japanese company to do so.

Swaraj Mazda and Sumitomo will bring a new auto plant online next to an existing factory in Delhi.

Isuzu will lease two of the six 300-meter production lines.

The buses will 20% higher in price than local made ones but 10-20% cheaper than European buses.

After buses will come trucks…2010ish.

Mazda Motor Corp set up Swaraj Mazda in 1983 but pulled out in 2005…a few years too soon.

Sumitomo owns 41% of the venture.

Isuzu hopes to eventually roll out 40,000-50,000 vehicles annually.

It will take a long time before there are enough trucks and buses to accomodate India.

What kind of business do you want to do in India?
