Indian PM Singh Expresses Displeasure With Japan Trade Level
India's PM Singh thinks the level of trade and investment between Japan and India is too small, according to an interview with Yomiuri.
The PM thinks that Japan's economy is big enough to help India sustain its current growth of 9-10%.
Last year India and Japan trade was about $6.2 billion – up 21% from the previous year…but…but…Japan and China trade reached $170 billion or nearly 30 times the amount of trade with India.
Even South Korea has more trade with Japan than India.
India currently ranks 26th among importers of goods and services from Japan…and 28th in exports to the country.
India can help Japan with her IT needs, IF, Japan will allow Indian workers into the country. Farm products are cheaper in India, too, IF they suit the finicky Japanese tastes.
It's quite simple, really. If India has what Japan wants, Japan will come and get it. Presently, there is not enough of what Japan wants. That's all.
What do you think?
