How to work yourself to death

Japan's Central Labor Relations Commission asked 373 firms employing 1,000 or more workers and with a capital of at least 500 million yen:

Is anybody in your company putting in more than 100 hours of overtime in a month?

One in three companies responded with a "Yes."

Workers who put in more than 80 hours of overtime a month are considered to be at risk of dying from overwork. It is also the standard for diagnosing depressionoverworked.jpg caused by excessive work.

If a worker puts in more than 100 hours the previous month before his/her death, s/he will be entitled to worker's compensation.

The average worker in Japan, excluding overtime, puts in 1,881 hours a year = 37.62 hours…and then the overtime kicks in.

How to work yourself to death?

Put in 65 hour work weeks.

That should do it.

Ask the one in three companies in Japan who have workers already at that level.

What do you think?
