How much Money do Tokyo Residents Make?

Tokyo's metropolitan government takes a survey every five years to learn the financial status of its residents.

Some 6,000 households were randomly selected and 63% of them responded.

1. 51% of the households reported an annual income of less than 5 million. ($40K)…UP, 13% from 2001.

2. 27% made less than 3 million ($25K)…up 9.3%.

3. 1.6% made more than 20 million ($160K) DOWN 1.7%tokyoite.jpg

4. 11.5% made from 10-20 million ($80K-160K) also DOWN 3.2%.

5. 28% said their main source of income was a pension or welfare benefits.

6. 22% said nobody in the household was employee.

Hmmm…perhaps I should take this blog writing gig and my online teaching to Tokyo. It has to be better than trying to make it here in Silicon Valley.

How would you fare in Tokyo?
