Honda Faces Massive Recall in China
One of the biggest fear of Japanese carmakers has reared its ugly head…a lack of quality control when building its cars outside of Japan.
"Japanese carmaker Honda Motor Co's joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Corp announced on Friday that it will recall almost 500,000 vehicles on March 19 due to potential power steering and oil pump problems."
400K+ Accords, almost 70K Odyssey MPVs and 10K Fit subcompacts are being recalled.
There have been no accidents or injuries yet…![]()
In January Honda and joint venture partner Dongfeng Motor Corp recalled 46K CR-Vs due to shock absorber defects.
Japanese carmakers mean quality. But can they, Toyota, Honda and Nissan maintain the quality that goes along with their reputation when producing cars in overseas factories?
It doesn't seem so.
What about factories that are being built in India and other countries?
Maybe Japanese carmakers need to rethink their strategy for overseas expansion.
In the end…it will be the consumer who pays for these recalls, no?
