Holy Smokes! – Burning Prayers and the Burning Man

Posted by Bill Belew on February 18th, 2009 in Japan | No Comments

Question – How do you make holy water?

Answer – boil the hell out of it.

Question – What do you get when you cross an elephant with a rhino?

Answer – Elephino.

America has the Burning Man festival in Nevada each year.

Not to be outdone, perhaps, Japan has a burning prayer festival.

It happens a the Hosenji Temple in Nakano ku, Japan.

Japanese burn their prayer sticks at a ceremony at the temple thinking perhaps “to hell with these prayers if they don’t get answered.”

What do you do with your unanswered prayers?

Better yet, do you pray?

Does this mean I should deduct all expenses associated with BM attendance as a religious contribution?
