Hokkaido Gas leaks kill three

A fatal amount of carbon monoxide leaked into three Japanese homes, killed the three residents and left them undiscovered for three days.

What's that about deaths coming in threes?

The deaths were a wakeup call to Hokkaido Gas Co. who in turn starting investigating for further underground leaks.

Instead of it being an isolated incident, the company discovered two more leaks in nearby areas in the same city, Kitami.gas.leak.jpg

The pipes that sprung leaks were made of cast iron and laid underground 40 years ago.

The company planned to switch from gas manufactured from petroleum materials to natural gas in 2009. No doubt, that change will be speeded up.

Residents of Kitami are reporting gas smells and 11 others have been taken to the hospital.

One wonders, what other pipes were laid and where in 1967 by this company…and the conditions of those pipes?

What do you think?
