High School Students Don Samurai Garb, Act Out Life-siize Game of Japanese Chess
The city of Tendo, Yamagata, is the largest producer of shogi (Japanese chess) pieces in Japan.
On April 21st, the city reproduced a scene of the ancient warlord, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, by having a group of high school students dress up in Samurai garb and move around in a life-size game of shogi.
The board was about 50 feet by 40 feet (16.6 meter X 13.8 meters).![]()
8,000 some people game to watch as the city hoped that 8,000 plus more orders for shogi games and pieces would be placed.
