Head Honcho Trash Slashed

The honcho is the neighborhood association leader. It is pronounced hone (-) + chosen (-sen)….NOT han ( like in han solo).

The leader or honcho rotates every year among the neighborhood. Responsibilities include collecting trash fees, getting participatants together for sporting events and other nonsense….quite a hassle to be honest. But, everyone does it and we took a turn as well.

Sometimes, however, people get too serious about

A 64-year old man went after a 72-year old who was just taking his turn, with a kitchen knife on a street in Nagoya.

The older gent warned the younger about scavenging through the trash…one warning too many. So, the younger went after him.

A 25-year old neighbor stepped in and turned the attacker over to police.

Gaijins…pronounced guy jeans = foreigners, are great for going through the trash especially on big trash (gomi) days.

My guess, is the foreign dudes will be a bit more careful now. Probably not.

Have you ever found your treasure in another man's trash?
