Happy Valentine’s Day – If you love me, give me a raise
Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., and Nissan Motor Co. didn't get chocolate from the Auto labor unions. What they got was a request for a raise.
Toyota autoworkers want a 1,500 yen/month raise and their annual bonuses to be 2.58 million yen.
Honda workers want a 1,000 yen/month raise and their bonuses to be 6.6 month's pay.
Nissan workers want a 7,000 yen/month raise and bonuses 6.3 month's salary.
In addition to a montly salary, Japanese workers get two annual bonuses, one in the summer and one in the winter.![]()
Toyota autoworkers want $21,300 in annual bonus in addition to their monthly salary. Japanese workers do not have the option of having their salary divided over the course of the year as part of their monthly salary.
Japanese car makers are rolling in the yen. It's work force should share in the profits.
America's auto workers are sharing. GM, Ford and Chrysler are losing money hand over fist. Workers are being laid off as well.
It's a good problem when workers want more money…IF…the employer has the money to share.
What do you think?
