Good News For Japan’s Economy Pours In – Fujifilm

Fujifilm Holdings posted a profit of over 10% in the second quarter of this fiscal year. Japan’s fiscal year begins in April.

Fujifilm’s sales were down in color film and digital cameras but the slack was made up for in sales of display panels and digital copiers.

Profits totaled about 18.99 billion yen ($160 million).

Fujifilm has had to restructure as people have shifted from film cameras to digital. Earlier this year, the company laid off 5,000 people and paid out 11 billion in termination fees and STILL came out in the black.

So, why can’t American companies do that? What is the secret to Japanese companies making money hand over fist?

What do you think?
