Global Warming is Big Business

Global Warming…like it, love it, believe the hype or not…it can't be denied that the global warming buzz is driving big business.

I have lost count of the number of times I have read the word while reading through the news today to find what I want to touch on in my three blogs.

Here's one example –

"With global warming posing risks of even severer water shortages around the world, scientists are working to develop new methods that make seawater desalination more cost competitive."

It used to be that desalination was a good way to get more water…now it's because the global warming monster is after us and may drink all the water in the world up, or just plain not let it rain enough anymore.

Toray Industries and Saga University have come up with a cheaper (60 yen/cubic meter) to turn sea water into drinking water. The cost is still more expensive than purifying river water (25yen/cubic meter) and reusing waste water (30 yen/cubic meter) but not as expensive as desalinating sea water by evaporation (90 yen/cubic meter).

Singapore has to buy most of its water from neighboring Malaysia…however, with this new membrane technology, it may be more practical for Singapore to make its own water. Hmm…

The end of the article –

"Seeing big business opportunities in global warming, Hyflux plans to expand operations in China, which suffers from severe pollution of its water supply."

The key word…big business.

Do you think the global warming buzz is a just a reason to drive business?

The hotter temperature, the thirstier people and the more expensive drink water. It’s time for us to protect the environment by strictly prohibiting the pollution arising from the high speed industry development.Danny Deng, dannydeng99@hotmail.com , 86-13697246248
