Giving Buddha a Bath in Japan

The Japanese have a saying, 'saru mo ki kara ochiru' even monkeys fall from trees.

How about this 'even Buddha can't do it all alone.'

The Buddha in Japan needs help from time to time…think year end, in Japan.

Sutras get read, priests don masks and get out hair and tooth brushes and dusters to clean the cobwebs off (our of?) Buddha in Nara.

The Shaka Sanzonzo, a Japanese national treasure, also got a good cleaning.

Some 10 priests and workers gave Buddha his annual cleaning at the Horyuji

Temple Kondo hall, after which, worshipers gathered to clap hands and pray. Or just clap because he finally got a bath maybe?buddha.bath.jpg

As for me, I prefer a God who can clean, not one who needs to be cleaned.

How about you?
