Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 5 December 2007No Comment

Finns are on top, followed by Canada and Japan in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) science education league table.

Next comes New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, South Korea, Germany and Britain.

The second tier - the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Hungary, Sweden, Poland, Denmark and France.

In the bottom tier came Iceland, the United States, Slovakia, Spain, Norway, Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Mexico.

The survey revealed that 72% of students are interested in science, yet only 37% would consider a career in the science fields, and this despite the environmental challenges.

Would you like to be a scientist?
