European Commission Raids Toshiba and NEC
Yesterday Sony received a subpoena from the US Justice Department concerning their SRAM dealings.
Toshiba Corp. and NEC Electronics Corp. were not so lucky in Europe.
The European Commission sent on-site antitrust investigators – that’s fancy for raided – the companies to check up on their static random access memory (SRAM) chip business.![]()
The European Commission is concerned with sales prices of the chips that go in products like cell phones.
In addition to Sony, Hitachi Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Renesas Technology Corp have also been the subject of investigations by the US Justice Department.
So, what’s up with the SRAM?
I am not smart enough to even fully understand what it is, much less what might be wrong with it. But it seems to be more of a business/sales problem than a technology one.
There will be an accounting soon enough.
What do you think?
