Digger Operator Gets 50 million

If nobody steps up to claim lost money or articles, Japanese law requires the police hold the items for 6 months and 14 days. (It's a nice round number.)

Six months and 14 days ago a 43-year old construction site digger unearthed a box containing 50 million yen ($400,000ish).

The police have been sitting on it ever since and no one has stepped forward to claim it.

The money will be divided up between the digger and the owner of the land where the construction was taking place.

I find it remarkable that nobody stepped forward. Equally amazing was that the digger turned the money in in the first place.construction.digger.jpg

In America…the money would be held up in court for the next 20 years while a dozen people that it doesn't belong to fought for it in court till it was gone in lawyer fees.

What's the most money you have ever found?
