BitTorrent Sets Up Shop in Japan
BitTorrent Inc will set up its peer-to-peer movie sharing technology in Japan as a wholly owned subsidiary.
BitTorrent will license its content transmission technology to local media companies.
The new firm will be capitalized at more than $4 million.
It's technology is becoming the standard in the industry – Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. and Paramount Pictures work with the company to offer movies online.
BitTorrent technology allows the transmission of large files faster and more economically than through servers.
Originally the service was an illegal exchange of movies, television dramas and other
content, however, since '04, BitTorrent has worked with the media and movie companies to establish a business model for cooperation.
And, now…in Japan, too.
Have you ever used BitTorrent?
