Baby-Dropoff Box Completed
The drop-off point is named "Akachan Posuto: Konotori no Yurikago" (Baby Postbox: Stork's Cradle).
It has a hatch that is about 50cm by 60cm (1'8" x 2') that opens up to a warmed bed where babies can be placed….big people, too, I suppose, IF they will fit.
As soon as the hatch is opened an alarm goes off to alert hospital workers.
Hospital workers figured some babies would be too small to set off an alarm if the baby's weight is used to activate it.
Jikei Hospital in Kumamoto is the hospital initiating this controversial drop-off point that allows people to anonymously deposit newborn babies they don't want to raise.
It sure beats any alternative the baby might face.
