Baby Hatch Gets First Newborn

Kumamoto's baby hatch may not be a popular idea, but it is legal  and it has just saved the lives of, three, make that four little guys…including its first newborn.

The Christian Hospital received a baby about 10 days old at around 4 am yesterday.

The baby girl was in good condition and had NOT been buried. 

The hatch is known in Japanese as the "konotori no yurikago" (stork cradle), and is modeled after a similar system in Germany.

The drop off cradle has an incubator and is designed so people can drop their babies off anonymously.

The first 'drop off' was a little boy 3-4 years old. The second was 2 months. The third was

several months…and this fourth is an infant.

The users are finally getting it right.

The babies will be adopted or sent to nursing homes.

I'll take them…all of them.
