ANA Pilot Grounded for Drinking 9.5 Hours Before Flying

An All Nippon Airways pilot was grounded from flight duties for drinking alcohol… 9.5 hours BEFORE a flight?

He violated in-house rules that prohibit crew members from drinking within 12 hours of a flight….no matter there was a full night's sleep in between the booze and the flights.

Going down with the 38-year old Airbus A320 captain were:

1. three of his superiors, including the deputy in charge of flight operations and

2. another pilot who knew what happened but didn’t speak up.

The captain had a few drinks at 10pm the night before he flew four flights that started at 7:25am the next morning.

Though the incident occurred more than a year ago, it came to light just last month when an acquaintance of the captain reported the incident.

He is now…pushing papers.

Another reason why we never hear "Gee, I wish I had been drinking at the time." Eh?
