"Hey! Look at that nerd who does NOT have a little machine to twiddle on, download music to, and text message friends with!"

Yup…it used to be that if you used gadgets you were OUT. Now, in Japan, if you do NOT have a mobile phone/mp3 player/portable pc you are OUT!

A full 96% of Japanese high school students have mobile phones and ALL about .5% of them access Websites from their handsets.

60% of junior highers have cell phones and 30% of elementary kids have them.ist2_862517_girl_on_a_cellphone.jpg

56% of jr. highers and 27% of primary school kids go online with their mobiles.

High school students are more apt to access the web via their

cell phones than via a PC – 74%.

Jr highers (68.7%) and elementary school kids (58.3%) still rely more on the PC.

The main reasons for going online –

1. homework

2. viewing Websites

3. reading blogs (this one, no doubt)

4. sending and receiving e-mails

Parents worry about what their kids wiill see….yet, only 3% of school children use filtering services to block access to harmful sites.

Why not make a 'kid phone' with the blocks already installed?

What DID we do before there were cell phones?
