“911″ – “Help!” – “Where are you?” – “Uh, I don’t know.”

There were 9.39 million emergency phone calls to police place in Japan in 2005. 59% of them were made from cell phones.

Problem – when the police asked the callers were they were, the caller could not explain.

Solution – Japan will begin putting GPS in all new 3G phones. Next time someone calls, the police will be able to locate them.

Additionally…family members will be able to keep track of each other. "He's up on the roof!"

And, of course, cell phone users can use their toys to get directions. "Get on the train and ride. Then get off the train at your stop."

The goal is to have half of Japanese phonese equipped with GPS by 2009 and 90% by 2011.

I guess I will wait till then to have an emergency in Japan.

Can you always tell someone where you are and how to get there?
