# 70 How can I prepare best to teach ESL in Japan?
How can I prepare best to teach ESL in Japan?
Anymore, there are countless courses that one may take to prepare for teaching ESL in Japan that go beyond the scope of this question.
In another series of posts I will share my own techniques and lessons learned for teaching ESL.
Are ESL teacher training courses worthwhile? Usually.
Are they necessary? Not necessarily.
As for me and my schools, send me good people. I can teach a good person how to be a good teacher, but I cannot always teach a good teacher how to be a good person.
The best teacher is one who cares for the students, one who is sensitive, kind, patient and willing to be for the students the instructor they need.
The best teacher, in my opinion, is one who is a diligent study of Japanese. That person who is studying the Japanese language becomes sensitive to what is they want to know/do in Japanese.
That is what the Japanese student wants to learn how to do in English.
Give me a good person who is a hardworking student of Japanese and I’ll be a very happy camper.
