600 Counterfeit 10,000 Yen Bills Turn Up in Japan

Some 600 counterfeit 10,000 bills were brought to Japan's central bank by several different people.

The bills were highly sophisticated with an old design including watermarks.

Even bank workers at the Bank of Japan and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi could not detect their fakes.

Some were brought in from Thailand.

I remember when color copiers first came out in Japan way back when.counterfeit.yen.jpg Immediately, some people tried and succeeded at copying Japanese 10,000 yen notes AND using them.

Some other sneaky dudes learned that coins from other countries that were much less valuable than a Japanese 100-yen coin but of the same size could be used in vending machines to buy, well, anything….because Japanese will sell most anything from a vending machine.

We used to make phone calls for a nickel and a penny back when it was a dime. I suppose that's the most cheating I've ever done with money.

How about you?
