The Japanese are a seafood eating people.

At the market in Teradomari…squid, anago, eel, octopus, crab…you name it, if it can be found in the sea, the Japanese will cook it up, or not…and eat it.

The most common ways to cook fish in Japan are:

1. not to cook it all – sashimi – thinly sliced raw fish, eaten with Japanese horseradish, wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. The wasabi will off set the bacteria in the raw fish.

2. raw fish with sushi – shrimp, tuna and such on rice.japan_map_islands.gif

3. grilling with salt sprinkled on top

4. teriyaki – yumm! – marinating fillets of fish and then grilling while basting.

5. boiling over low heat with soy sauce or miso.

6. Tempura – shrimp, prawn, squid and white-meat fish

You can eat them on a stick (octopus, squid…), in little balls (tako yaki), on a plate or….

If you're a sea food lover…Japan is indeed the place.
