6 Reasons Why Japan is Losing Its Domination in the Fishing Industry
Japan does fish. I have seen fish served that was cut up, ready to eat, yet still breathing. Now, that’s raw.
However, Japan is losing its global domination in the fishing industry and for good reason.
1. Chinese are eating more fish…ocean going fish, largely because many Chinese can afford it now, when they couldn’t before
2. Europeans and North Americans are becoming more health-conscious.![]()
3. Taiwanese are eating more fish. Tuna is now part of their everyday eating pattern.
4. Mad-cow disease and bird-flu scares.
5. Sushi boats…in London, NYC, Moscow, San Jose. I never saw a sushi boat in Japan.
6. Europeans and South Americans are becoming better at fishing for themselves instead of buying from the Japanese,
Growing up, the only time we ate fish was when it didn’t look like fish or taste like fish.
Then I spent nearly 20 years in Japan. However, I now find it sad and unfortunate that I didn’t work harder at acquiring a taste for the many kinds of fish.
I’d be a lot healthier now, and slimmer, too.
How about you? How often do you have fish?
