A U.S. government arms-sale official said the prospects for another country buying America's premier jet fighter, Lockheed Martin Corp.'s radar-evading F-22 Raptor, including Japan or Israel won't happen.

Here's why:

1. It would cost more than $1 billion making it "prohibitively expensive."

2. The Raptor would have to be redesigned – to degrade the aircraft's capabilities

3. The jet would have to be rebuilt – to make them tamperproof

4. The fighter would have to be retested – making sure the technology is exclusive

5. Then…produced…f-22.raptor.jpg

Japanese would like to have some of the $136 million per copy jets as part of its response to regional missile threats.

There are 12 currently deployed to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Japan.

Do you think Japan should be able to buy America's best?
