4 Policies of Japan’s New Prime Minister Fukuda

Yasuo Fukuda will be Japan's new Prime Minister as soon as they vote him in tomorrow.

The Prime Minister has already begun laying out some key policy issues –

1. more consultation with the Democratic Party of Japan – the DPJ controls the House of Councillors

2. he wants to extend the Maritime Self-Defense Force mission to refuel U.S. military vessels in the Indian Ocean – America said 'whew!'

3. he wants to reform the pension system starting with identifying the 50 millionfukuda.ldp.jpg people affected by the lost records

4. he hinted at raising the 5% consumption tax – and nobody is going to like that.

How much difference does a PM make to the everyday lives of the people in Japan?
